Chocolate and Vanilla

I went to a wedding recently. It was a beautiful ceremony – the bride entered the church singing a duet with the groom, the happy couple’s church community and friends all gathered to celebrate, and I was introduced to the Hong Kong traditions of glass tapping (which would not stop until the bride and groom had kissed) and “Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumm SAE!” (the shout made as the bride and groom were toasted at each table). It was the former aspect of the day that was somewhat contentious between Tim and I though. Perhaps it is the product of the age difference between us, but I’ve always tended to be the modern one, while he tends to admire the classics and traditional. I like to explore new things, he would rather stick to the things he knows to be good. But somehow, through either vigorous debate or reluctant acquiescence on one person’s part (‘yes dear…whatever makes you happy, dear…’), we seem to reach compromises.
