Sakae – Sydney
Saturday, 19 Dec 09
I rolled over, still sleepy from a food-induced coma. “Male…go hunt dinner for me.”
“…Sure, I’ll go downstairs to Woolworths, and pick up a carcass of animal, and drag it home and Female can cook it for me” was the sardonic response.
“…”
And so we ended up going out for dinner after the Food-Blogger Christmas Picnic.
Sakae has recently become our Japanese and slightly healthier equivalent of MacDonalds. It’s nothing flash, and there are plenty of other Japanese options in the area which are firm favourites (Makoto, Miso, Nazimi, Akasaka to name a few). But it’s advantage is that it is quite literally across the road, has speedy service, and reasonable pricing. The sushi entree platter above had only average tuna, but the salmon and squid were definitely up to scratch, the former deliciously fatty and the latter fresh.

Wagu beef is delicious! I love finding healthier alternatives to “fast food” – there’s nothing wrong with Japanese instead of Maccas! :)

I’ve always found those tiny Japanese sushi rolls in your first photo so very cute. Plus they’re bite-size! :)

I keep getting confused between this place and that new swanky establishment in the Rocks. Especially with the price talk (Sake is good value wtf?!?!?!).
Salmon belly looks really lush, I’d think that a hotplate would kind of ruin the wagyu though. Did the taste stay awesome?
