A Daily Cup
Thursday, 12 Feb 09
I once met a friend of a friend, who, aside from her seeming red cordial addiction, had made me laugh almost uncontrollably when she commented, out of the blue, on how people would remind her of animals. Some would be pitbulls, others horses. Okay, so I was at least one vodka cruiser away from being completely sober, but her imitations were highly amusing. But then, it occurred to me today that some people can be compared to desserts. Miss Jen would be compared to something unbelievably pretty, perhaps a selection of delicately flavoured macarons, while Miss Chocolate would certainly be her namesake, perhaps a luscious warm chocolate cake, with molten, enveloping centre, just like a sweet hug. Other friends would be platters of fresh fruit, refreshing in their simplicity, while others still, might be as complex as a multi-layered gateux, showing many facets but somehow linked as a whole.
To me though, Tim is a chocolate mousse. Perhaps this is because this is the first thing we really cooked together, it has become our signature dessert and hasn’t ever really differed from it’s original form.
Smooth, silky and light as clouds, its texture doesn’t reflect its nutritional content. Full of cream, eggs and dark Lindt couverture, this isn’t something to eat on a litre by litre daily basis. All the same, it’s too good to pass up, and not easy to walk past when there’s a cup of this in the fridge.
Recipe can be found here, and this is always a great idea for Valentines Day – and even if you don’t celebrate it, it’s not back to curl up on the couch with either.
Better hurry though. It’ll go quickly.
