Dear Diary,

*beepbeepbeepBEEPBEEP!!* *fumble* *thud* *BUZZZBUZZZ!*.

The ‘glorious’ sound of the mobile phone alarm hitting the wooden floor at 5.45 in the morning, and continuing to vibrate its frustration much like an annoyed bumble bee, annoyed me (read: pissed me off) to an unusual degree yesterday morning. I felt an irritating tickle in the back of my throat, peeked open one eye only to be hit by the bright glare of the morning sun, and couldn’t breathe through my nose.

Damn. Staying up late to finish an assignment and marching through the day on 3 hours of sleep had caught up with me. Stupid cold.

Panadol – 2 tablets. Demazin – 15mLs (the kiddy version, because it tastes sort of like peach schnapps). Adding a disclaimer about how mixing medicines, or choosing medicines on the basis of similarity to alcohol, is not necessarily a good idea and avoiding getting sued – Priceless. Talk to your registered health care professional.

Alright. I can do this. I think. I continued on through the day, taking out my pencil case instead of my wallet when fumbling for my bus pass, trying to insert said bus pass the wrong way round (“Chris! The other way!”), sitting a statistics exam, and not remembering what I’d written by the time the lecturer yells out Pens DOWN!…Yeah. So it wasn’t my best of days. I hate being sick. I hate winter.

Dear Diary,

Today was a much better day than yesterday. I slept in, skipped uni so as to not infect anyone else, and ate kaya on toast for breakfast (*heart*). Then I spent the morning learning how neurons work (okay, so that part wasn’t so fun), all the while tempted by the smell of the soup I had bubbling away on the stove.

Chicken soup. Tomatoes. Carrots. Potatoes. Chickpeas. Israeli cous cous. Persian fetta. Mmm. This is food for a chilly day, or those days when it’s just too hard to get out of bed.

An edible hug. Minestrone. Read the rest of this entry »
